BUT, just know, that if I had this project to do over, I would do it one million times different. And one million times better.
Yes, I'm saying I learned a lot. Yes, I'm saying it's a hot mess.

But my lil man has been sleeping in his new bed for 2 weeks, and he ain't complaining.
Let me level with you. This project was mucho expenseevo.

But look at the state of his old bed. Little fart knockers.
And the way I see it: I'd have spent more heading to the local furniture store buying him a nice bed.
It's those kinds of rationalizations that help me sleep better.
Know what I love about my 8 year old?

He's not too old, hence his favorite books. Aren't the "David" books awesome?

And he's not too young. Brought a lot of my childhood faves from the 'rents house for him to enjoy.
And we re-hee-heally need to move past the "pillow pet" obsession in this house.

Ever gone through a phase where you refuse to spend cash on little, decorative tchotchkes?

I'm at that phase right now. I just dug up our own junk to put in his little bookshelves.
One day, the hubs'll even install a light overhead.

He washed his hands of this entire project, but he did condescend to put in the light for me, 'cause as we all know: I don't do electrical.
And so, from a trashy little playroom,

a little boy's Bed Nook was born.

Or a window bed.

Or a total piece of crap. Whatever you wanna call it.

I think this window bed is completely fabulous! The 8 year old kid in me is extremely envious. I also noticed The Horse and His Boy on the shelves -- one of my all time fave books!
I only wish I could be like you hehe--connie, measuredbytheheart.com
I really don't know what you are talking about! I think it is gorgeous!! Well done

I can't imagine what you think you should do over. It is so great. I think it is worth every penny. He seems so happy in that bed with his book!
Wow, what a project. I don't even own a saw! No need a light with those windows. Maybe a little one on one of the shelves? No cord in the way, kids would be pulling it down all the time. Looks great. Relax a while will ya!
I always wanted a built in bed like this when I was a kid. The neighbors next door had a bedroom with 2 of them and I was envious. If only my mom could have built me one. I'm not seeing imperfections in your bed. I'm just floored that you can do that. Lucky kid you got there.
I know you are hard on yourself, and you can see things up close, but I think your bed looks awesome! And, good for you for taking it on! Lots of us wouldn't feel comfortable even trying. You should be proud of yourself!
um...that is gorgeous! it is perfect! love the colors of the bedding.
It turned out AWESOME! I wish I could do stuff like that. I don't blame all of the boys for wanting to sleep in there =)
definitely not a total piece of crap...personally, I may just have to hire you to come and make me one.
I wish I had a quarter of your talent. I wish I was comfortable with my hubby's electrical tools like you are. From the pictures that you've posted, it looks awesome! You are to hard on yourself.
I think it's way cool and Mr. J. is one very lucky boy! So when you're ready to do it again, so you can do it differently, I know of the perfect place.... :)
Mandi, I think it's gorgeous! Tell Jamison I will GLADLY trade!

You mean a piece of heaven. Number one it is a fabulous story. Number two the bed came about amazingly well and inviting. Man I am taking notes here big time. My son is soon to be 4 but I am thinking 5 is a good age for a makeover. Thanks for the inspiration!
