The Price Is WRONG, Bob.

Besides getting my mantel done before December 1st, I also wanted a little sumfin' else I had to hustle my buns to complete.
Every year, my kids ask "for that thing, where you get a candy each day and it counts down to Christmas!?"

We get those lame, little ones at the grocery store that cost a $1 with wax "chocolate" inside of them, because I always think I'll build something awesome and then never do.

And then. . . BEHOLD!:

Punch A Bunch Christmas Advent? This will be mine. Oh yes. This will be mine.

I'm gonna use this every year, so of course I want it sturdy. Turned to my scraps in the gay-rage.

Used a piece of quarter inch plywood. Because if you know me, you know I always have quarter inch plywood hanging around. It's just so useful!

Just in case you wanted to know: I spaced my circles 5" apart from the center, and the circle size I used is 3". I used the circular drill bit I was supposed to give back to the Daddy-o a long time ago and still haven't. . .sorry Daddy-o.

Ew. Now it's time to paint. You know? I don't have to hate to paint. I just. . . if I just never had to tape anything off. Or cut anything in. Or paint little nooks and crannies.  And if everything just needed only one coat.  And if everything was just a straight, flat wall. And the roller never needed to be reloaded with paint.

And if it wasn't my arm.

So! I painted this here board, and stamped some numbers on there.

(Oh, look! I finally finished my glass tile backsplash! And, I got my sink all cleaned up, too! Some things actually get finished around here! But we'll talk about that later.)

Here's where I tell you that I originally had plans to make an awesome "case" for this.  Have a base, some sides-- even a backing to hide everything behind it.  I'd run those pieces of wood through the table saw-- make a groove so you can slide the front in and out. . . wow.

Then I came to my senses.  I'd make a relatively free project cost a fortune, weigh a thousand pounds, take 10 times longer, and be hard to store.  Hellllloooo.

Maybe next year I'll make it better.

(Note: this will never happen.)

I took these cups I found at the dollar store, slightly larger than the openings, and placed little treats inside.

These treats may or may not be old Halloween candy, because I forgot to purchase treats. If that disgusts you, well, then. . . that's not what I did.

Covered 'em with tissue paper and secured with a rubber band. . .and. . .voila.

I seriously underestimated the excitement factor for this calendar. Kids flipped a coin over who punch a bunch's first.   I might even use this for birthdays.

I would so punch the wood in my excitement and break my hand. That said, still worth it, because that looks freaking awesome!

SO much better than our little wooden box-with-doors advent thing... mainly because I cannot fill all the doors in advance (little kids have no patience whatsoever)... which means I have to either stay up late or get up early every single exhausting day in December... Or wake up to screaming about how "the elves" didn't come, and then try and toss a few quarters behind the box and claim the kid must have knocked it out accidentally... (not that this has ever happened... more than once...)

You never cease to amaze me! WHERE, girlfriend, do you find time to do all this awesomeness??!??!?!!! :) Your kids have the coolest mommy ever!

Holy cow, that is AWESOME. I agree, you are the coolest mom in the world. I'm totally gonna TRY to make one of these next year!!

We must be thinking the same, because I have been looking for an advent calendar. That turned out cute! Way to go!

What an awesome idea! Totally stealing it, not for the kids but for Spencer and I.

I'm with you, painting the first layer I'm so down with, it's all the prep and the 2nd and 3rd layer I can't stand. I volunteered to paint 3 giant signs for my work and I've been working on them every spare minute for the past week and still aren't done! Worst volunteer idea ever.
