He Is A Sailor On The Pirate Ship Revenge.

Are you ready to discuss the "Pirate Ship Revenge" room? 'Cause I am.

Like Vanessa Williams, I went and saved the best for last.

I hate that song.

Okay, so! Remember this headboard the Daddy-o and Mommy-o made?

This is pretty awesome, in and of itself, no?
Well, let's take a little look-see in it's final resting place:

Awesomesauce, right?

Well, one other thing that I love that the Mommy-o and Daddy-o did, was that they've put/they're putting a vanity table in every bedroom.
And you know I love that:

Isn't this mirror so fun? It's hanging from pulleys the Daddy-o made. The mirror is totally vintage-- if memory serves me correctly, I believe it was my great grandmother's mirror. I think the parental units were disappointed that it didn't clean up completely. I think it makes it all the more cool.

Okay. NOW.

Here's where the parents got crazy with the cheese whiz.

The Pirate Ship Revenge bed wasn't enough for this room. Oh ho, no. Remember that they have 16 grandchildren that they would love to accomodate.

It was then that the Mommy-o thought of the huge, grandiose plans of making a Pirate Ship Bunkbed.
Daddy-o sketched 'em out while he was at my place one day:

(Oh ma gosh I feel so special!)

And he got to work. I wanna tell you a few things about this Pirate Ship Bunkbed.

This thing is huge; it spans an entire wall. Daddy-o had saved a lot of finial/balluster thingys over the years, and now he knows why. They were perfect for this project.

This also had to be taken apart, labeled piece by piece for reconstruction when brought up to the Lakehouse,

and brought up in two separate loads because it is that big. This, is half.

Are ya ready to see it?

Huh, huh?

Me too.

Bam.

So how many beds does this Pirate Ship have?

Not one, not two. . .

6 total.

I pity the poor fool who sleeps in this room with all the cousins who will surely wanna have a "sleepover" in here each night.

And finally, the room in it's entirety:

Voila. To say my kids were excited would be a big understatement.

So! Question:

the 'rents are low on inspiration for another bedroom.  What say ye?  Any thoughts?

General theme?

Think sailboat headboard:

This is being done, fo sho.  But anything else goes.  Shark bed?  A lighthouse bed?  Anyone, anyone?  Bueller?

So? Something fun? Thoughts? Ideas? Inspiration? Possibilities? Possible investors?

My 3 year old was looking over my shoulder when I was reading this post and saw your son playing on the bed. He asked "can we go to his house? Please Mommy, Mommy please? Is he my cousin?"
No doubt this room will be a favorite!

Love the room and all of your projects! My cousin created a great room for his kids and some of the elements might work well for you! Here's a link to the video of the room complete with tire swing, and rock climbing wall that is a hidden murphy bed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjYwZG0oTmg&feature=player_embedded

Just thought I'd throw some ideas out there!

Oh wow that's fantastic!!! I'm telling you, TV show man.

As far as another room... My thoughts keep circling back to the theme "The Cove". Interepret as you see fit.

I am speechless! That has got to be THE COOLEST set of bunkbeds I ever did see! And that headboard...WOW!!! Oh the memories you guys are oging to make at the lakehouse! LUCKY! NOt gonna lie...I'm a little green with envy.

You guys are one cool family!! Can I marry my daughters off to your sons? ;-) I always thought it would be fun to sleep out on a pier.

Maybe a captain Nemo Nautalous/submarine room, or an undersea room?

Everything is super fun so far!

There are no words. Too cool! They should do a mermaid room. Something for the girls. ;)I'm sure scantily clad fish will go over well.

WOW! That room is amazing! It will definitely be a favorite, especially with the kiddos.

As for other ideas, sadly I've got nothin'.

Mermaid bunks!

Such a fun room. Super fun.

I just "downed a quart of pickle juice"! Man, that is the coolest bunk bed ever! Your Daddy-O is amazing at what he can build!!

How about an "under the sea" room?

My son is grown but no kids of his own yet, but all I could say looking through this post was "holy crap"! I think someone already touched on the mermaid bunk bed idea. But what about a the beds in a clam shell shape. The top half of the shell could rotate up and down a little to adjust a reading or night light. Oh, that might be overkill. Wait a sec!!! We're talking about YOU'RE family here!! :-) Too much awesomeness for one post!

Lori said...

Well, amazing. You could put half the grandkids in there or 6 and two brave adults.

That is amazing, Mandi! I can see you get your talents from them after seeing your potting bench. : ) I think it is awesome that your Dad can sketch out an idea like that and bring it to life. They are definitely the coolest grandparents ever!

Even before I saw other comments I was thinking mermaids too :) Fantastic Grandparents and they are incredibly talented! Blown away!

ha! my kid was like "please tell me those boys are my cousins!" ( we have 2 boy cousins that live in OH) he was sad to hear that we don't actually KNOW YOU and he couldn't sleep over. he suggests an under water theme with sharks and squids. so many squids :p(thank you Netflix for making a squid documentary cool and making me even more scared of things that live in the water)

Oh yes! underwater sunken galleon, anchors and treasure chests. I can see it now if I close my eyes!

Speechless here too. What word is better than awesome? Other theme? I thought of underwater too. It would be so cool with a shipwreck, treasure chests, fish, coral, clam beds, whatever. A submarine would be cool too!

Misty said...

Awesome! (As long as I don't have to make all those beds!) My first thought was under the sea. I like the clam shell idea. Can't wait to see the end choices.

Kerri said...

I'm thinking underwater. But the main focus is a big 'ol ship wreck. For some reason Goonies comes to mind...OOO! OR OR! A treasure room! Gold doubloons! Rubies! Pearls! Shines! Sorry, I'll calm down. :)

Well my kids wanna know when YOUR kids can go up to the lake with them this summer.

Glad you took pictures from a different angle. Know I get a better feel for it........and its even more awesome than I originally thought.......and I already thought it was SUPER awesome.

WHY OH WHY didn't I get any of your and Dad's talent???????????

houseofgoodin said...

This is the COOLEST thing I have ever seen! Such talent and creativity! I agree with the some of the others -- an under the sea room would be neat! Or maybe an "inside the cabin" of a boat-type room. I just keep picturing the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Great work, and keep sharing! I am totally showing this to my hub tonight!

Amanda said...

Yea, my 9 year old thinks this is the best ever!

meganwiser said...

Wow. Your dad need to win a freakin' award for that one! Love it, and I'm not even into the whole sailor/ship theme :)

Maureen said...

Mandi,

TREASURE MAP ROOM!!! Where the bed is the treasure chest and and the lid opens up to reveal the bed but the outside looks just like a treasure chest. The walls get painted to look like the map and a big X on the floor with the bed in the middle. Huh, huh, ... What do you think?
Am I glad I don't have to try to build this.
Your parents are seriouly talented and you are lucky to have inherited their genes. You, lucky thing, you!
The only thing I inherited was sarcasm. ;)

Two words: Holy crap! Now they won't ever want to go to disneyland since that will be a downer!

Jen said...

SO incredibly cool. Maybe a treasure chest bed? Wait.. [scrolling up]... someone may have said that. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Coolest bunk bed ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Michelle @ Dream Home DIY said...

Oh I love the idea of adding mermaid themed stuff. Like the big carved mermaid on the point of a pirate ship. You could do the INSIDE of a pirate ship in the next room...wood planked walls, plush red velvety texture, gold accents...

Michelle @ Dream Home DIY said...

This is super cool too... row boat/dingy bunk beds attached directly to the wall :)

Love the tone, humor and confidence of it. This post stands out. Me thinks creativity runs in the family per chance? I must share this with our readers (in an upcoming Weekend Review). Happy Sails!

What an AWESOME bed!

We're planning on doing a nautical theme (my husband was a ships captain) when our boys have their own room. THIS IS PERFECT!

I pinned it on pinterest for future reference.
