My backsplash is done, man.

And it was really fast. And yet, it wasn't fast.
That picture you see up there was about the time I needed to pull the oven away from the wall.
And there are no words. (shudder)
But I will try:
Rubbish. Filth. Slime. Muck. ("boo, boo, booooooo").
(randomly placed, slightly blurry child shot.)

Here, stare at my bum for a minute while I talk.

This is my 8th grout project-- and somehow, I keep forgetting just how freaking long it takes to clean up grout mess. It's like having a baby-you forget how painful it is until the next time you do it.
You wipe it clean, and then you wipe again, and again, and again, andagainandagainandagainandagainandagain,
and then again.
I'd also like to mention my ultimate freak out during this project- the shadows at night gave it the illusion that the tiles were going in every direction. Made the hubs keep coming up/down over and over to tell me I was imagining it.

It's how I roll.
Psst: I totally splurged and bought a fancy light switch cover.

Isn't it like, totally, molding-ish cute?
So, smoke a doobie if you've got one, 'cause we are done here.
A before and after?

And another?
Before,

and after:

I'm not taking a picture of my floor. I do have a word for that:
cesspool.

That turned out beautifully! I am completely jealous.
Looks wonderful Mandi. I know what you mean about tile grout being messy but lining up all those tiles satisfies my inner anal tendancies if y'know what I mean ;o)
it looks so great! thanks for the hard truth about grout clean-up. on all the diy shows, it takes about 0.2 seconds and they act like it's the easiest thing ever....
a quick question: how far down behind the stove did you tile?
bess :)
I CANNOT believe the deal you got on those - they look amazing, not at all like normal clearance garb....
AMAZING!! Great deal and it looks fabulous!!
I love your blog and you!!
The backsplash looks fab, Mandi. It definitely adds a little something something....texture, visual interest??? I don't know but I like it. And now I'm looking around my kitchen which is actually a very similar layout to yours, and I'm thinking the bologna 8" backsplash might have to get ripped out? Hmmmm. hmmmmmmmmm.
Now tell me about that ginormous goblet in the open shelving....?????....????? :)
Your blog is such a breath of fresh air! Thanks so much
Did you just quote Spaceballs AND Princess Bride in the same post? I may have a girl crush on you.
And I installed almost identical backsplash in our kitchen. Ours was also $4/sheet, but it has blues and grays in it. Different. But the same. ;)
AND, I think we might have twinner countertops. Is that Absolute Black I see? Or perhaps Galaxy Black?
Aloha and "smoke if ya got em",
Charlie
That's so puuuurtty!! The best part is that it was so flippin cheap! I LOVE that!!!!
got no doobies but love the tile. What a find and it compliments your kitchen so well.
Love it! You always do such a great job. :D
Premo job there Mandi! It really looks very good on the wall...sometimes things look a little 'iffy' until they're where they should be. (I'm thinking both clothes AND house stuff here)
Again, you rock girl!
This turned out beautiful!!! (not that I would expect anything less from you!) The colors of the tile goes so well with your kitchen. kuddos to you!
Mandi,
Oh this has added so much to your kitchen! I love it! We have small square blue glass tiles to put in a bathroom remodel that's been on hold for months. I need to bite the bullet...
Maureen
It's just the jewelry of the kitchen, don't you think? Lovely.
So pretty! Your kitchen is gorgeous! Thanks for always sharing(:
Awesome! I love glass tile and it looks great as your backsplash.
$20 very well spent I say!
I was gonna post a comment and then my 2 yr old came running in saying get a towel, I'll get a towel and clean it up. So...I gotta go.
"stare at my bum..." you are so funny.
It looks amazing. You are just incredible.
I'm totally digging your Above the microwave shelving again too....ahhh the backsplash looks awesome.
ok am I seeing little flecks of of something shiny in your countertop cause it sure looks like it and I am thinking that is puuuuurrrrfection with the tile. I'm not trying to give you any work cause God knows you are always on it girl, but those white dishes would sure pop if there was a color on the back of that cabinet. Loving the molding, guess I missed that project! Keep em coming, your good at what you do!
Holy cow! That looks even better up on your wall than it does in the box! Beautiful! Now I am jealous! (My kitchen is still torn apart with no end in sight!!!)
Of course it is done. Yes the grout thing does take a while. But oh the relection of the tile on the island. Wonderful.
It turned out beautiful! You did a great job. When we get to redoing our kitchen...after all the bedrooms and the living room...I would love to do a back splash just like yours. Great job!
That looks beautiful!
Woah! I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but it really does, doesn't it? Makes everything look so much more complete! Good job!

A thankless task.
Glad yours is finished
